Mindful Music and Movement classes are where learning happens through PLAY! Dr. Karyn Purvis of the Institute of Child Development states that scientists have determined that it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain – unless it is done with play, in which case, it takes between 10 and 20 repetitions! And that is why learning through play using music and movement is wonderful for children’s development.
According to a 2016 study at University of Southern California’s Brain and Creativity Institute, musical experiences in childhood can actually accelerate brain development, particularly in language acquisition and reading skills. Music and movement helps to IGNITE so many different developmental skills! There are many benefits to music and movement classes including:
- Explore cause and effect – I tap the drum and it makes noise!
- Become more aware of movement and body positions
- Develop social and emotional skills through group participation
- Learn to wait and take turns
- Develop large motor skills
- Improve balance and coordination through new movement activities
- Help improve small motor skills
- Share music and dance from other cultures
- Learn new words and concepts
- Cultivate listening skills
- Improve memory and cognitive development
- Enhance creativity and imagination
And so much more!!
Mission
By surrounding children with different musical activities in our classes, we are enhancing their natural-born fascination with music and movement. Our curriculum helps develop language, listening, motor, and cognitive skills while giving parents and caregivers the tools needed to stimulate learning through play. Actively engaging with music helps children develop and learn more than just listening to it.
