About

Mindful Music & Movement is a series of developmentally appropriate early childhood music and movement classes based off Jo Kirk’s WeJoySing curriculum. Classes are interactive – you and your child will be singing, dancing, playing, and learning together, not just sitting there watching. But what does it mean?

MINDFUL

Mindfulness, the practice of being fully present and aware of where we are and what we’re doing, is SO important for young children. By keeping our classes fast-paced and high energy, it is easier to stay present and engaged. We practice being mindful (without even knowing we’re doing it!) by:

  • Being aware of our bodies and using our senses
  • Moving our bodies in different ways
  • Using proprioception skills: how your brain understands where your body is in space
  • Playing instruments or “home found” instruments
  • Using our bodies to make music

Each class ends with a “Mindful Musical Moment” to help us wind down our bodies, relax, and refresh after our high energy music and movement fun.

MUSIC

We have a wide variety of musical activities in our classes:

  • Sing songs
  • Learn rhymes
  • Read books
  • Dance to music
  • Use instruments and/or “home found” instruments*
  • And SO MUCH MORE!

*You do NOT need to purchase instruments!

MOVEMENT

Children NEED to move! Our classes involve both seated activities and many different kinds of movement activities.

We practice age-appropriate ways to move our bodies, safely move and dance through the room, dance with scarves or ribbons, and have a lot of fun exploring music and musical concepts through various movement games and activities!

Meet Rachel Amidon and Mumo the music and movement kitty! Rachel was fortunate to teach WeJoySing classes with Mrs. Jo Kirk for 8 years. Rachel studied music education at Bowling Green State University. She loves to play many different musical instruments, be involved at her church, play with her daughter Juliette, ride rollercoasters, go to parks, and be with her family.

Mumo the Kitty is my helper. She’ll be there to help demonstrate different movements, bounces, wiggles, rhymes, and other movements. Mumo stands for MUsic and MOvement. Rachel and Mumo are excited to go on musical adventures with you!
